Electricity Board is preparing to fire 81 drivers
Lease Management, an initiative of the Himachal Pradesh Government to bring the Electricity Board out of losses, is now going to take several steps. In this context, the management board has also started laying off the employees. After eliminating 51 posts of engineers, now preparations are on to fire 81 outsourced drivers. This has created panic among the outsourced employees of the board.
The drivers being fired have been serving for 10 to 12 years. During this time, the previous Virbhadra government and the previous Jairam government also promised to make a policy for them, but till date the policy has not been made.
The decision to lay off drivers is unfortunate: Verma
Heera Lal Verma, co-convenor of Joint Front of Himachal Electricity Board, said that laying off the drivers is an unfortunate decision of the board. He said that if a policy cannot be made for them then at least they should not be fired from the job.
He said that the Electricity Board management has written a letter to the company through which the drivers are providing outsourced services. He has demanded the board management to reconsider its decision. He said that along with restoring the jobs of outsourced drivers, 51 abolished posts of engineers should also be restored.
Vehicles installed under scrap policy were removed: MD
Sandeep Kumar, Managing Director of the Electricity Board, said that the drivers were hired by the outsourced company and were not employees of the Electricity Board. Their services were being availed through the company. Now the vehicles have been removed from the Electricity Board under the scrap policy.
