Centre for Parliamentary Studies (CPS) in collaboration with the Centre for Comparative Public Law (CCPL) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla celebrated the Constitution Day on 25th November 2021. The theme of the celebrations was, “the Constitution of India: A Living Document”. The event was organized via Cisco WebEx online platform.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor HPNLU, Prof. Nishtha Jaswal. The keynote speaker for the event was Prof. T V Subba Rao, Professor Emeritus, VIPS, New Delhi, who shared his valuable views. Prof. Rao discussed the relevance of the history of the acceptance of the Constitution. He also talked about the influence of the various Acts prior to the adoption of the Constitution during colonial rule. He highlighted the need for each and every citizen of the country to understand this context and relevance and the prowess of the Constitution. Prof Rao highlighted the role of various leaders and especially Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar with reference to the drafting of the Constitution. He also highlighted the need for discussion on Constitutionalism as promoted by the Constitution of India in academia and how the same helps in the promotion of the spirit of the Constitution. He said – Constitutionalism is the antithesis to despotism.
In the event an online pledge was also administered to the participants. The CPS had conducted a slogan writing contest on the theme Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Anubhav Sharma and Akshita Kothari, first year students were adjudged first and second in the slogan writing competition respectively. The Programme was coordinated by Ms. Sarita, Assistant Professor of Law, HPNLU. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. S.S Jaswal, Director CPS and Registrar, HPNLU, Shimla.
