The Himachal Pradesh National Law University organized the second lecture in the HPNLU VR Krishna Iyer Annual Law Lecture Series on “Hindu Philosophy and the Modern Jurisprudence” on 20 th November, 2023 at the university campus. The lecture was delivered by Hon’ble Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Former Judge, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and Distinguished Professor of the HP National Law University, Shimla. Hon’ble Justice MS Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, Hon’ble The Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh presided over the event and Prof (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor of HP National Law University, delivered the welcome address. A display of the glimpses of the contribution of Hon’ble Justice VR Krishna Iyer for the law fraternity of the country was organized.
Hon’ble Justice V. Ramasubramanian in his lecture addressed the role of Hindu ideals and philosophy and their impact of the development of modern jurisprudence. Lordships talked about the meaning of Hindu philosophy and the principle of unity in diversity if Hinduism and quoted the Isha Upnishad. Lordship also discussed the four sources of Hindu philosophy, one’s own conscience being the interesting aspect of the same.
Hon’ble Justice MS Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, The Chief Justice of HP High Court, in lordship’s presidential address cited various judgments of Hon’ble Justice VR Krishna Iyer and their impact on the law in India.
Prof (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor of HP National Law University, welcomed the dignitaries in her welcome address and recited a peom in welcome of the dignitaries. She thanked the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time to arrive and deliver valuable address.
Hon’ble Judges of the HP High Court, including Hon’ble Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua, Justice Satyen Vaidya, Justice Virender Singh, Justice Ranjan Sharma, Justice Rakesh Kainthla adorned the event with his presence. Captain Ramesh Singh Thakur, The Chairman HP Public Service Commission, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Sandhu, Dean and Chairman, Faculty of Laws, HPU, Prof. (Dr.) Raghuvinder Singh, HPU were present to attend the lecture.
The event was followed by a vote of thanks by Prof (Dr.) SS Jaswal, Registrar of the University. Students of the university were elated and enlightened by the thought provoking and sensitizing lecture of the dignitary.
The HP National Law University hosts the Justice VR Krishna Iyer Annual Law Lecture Series every year and this was the second installment of this lecture series.
