The Center for Environment and Disaster Management (CEDM) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University organized a special lecture on “Forest Laws: Concerns and Challenges”. The lecture was delivered by Sh. Krishan Kumar (DFO Shimla). The guest of honor Sh. Krishan Kumar stressed on the importance of forests for maintaining the ecological balance. He specifically highlighted the forest laws in the colonial era and then discussed the forest policy and laws of post-independence era. Sh. Krishan Kumar then discussed Forest Conservation Act, 1980, Indian Forest Act, 1927, The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. In his lecture he highlighted the measures attempted for the regeneration of forests, the rights of forest dwellers with special focus on state of Himachal Pradesh.
Welcome and Inaugural address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla. In her address Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal stated that today’s date of 2 nd December reminded us of tragic Bhopal leak disaster of 1984. She further highlighted that we all need to learn from Bhopal gas leak tragedy and people have to come as volunteers for the protection of environment. .
The program was moderated by Dr. Chandreshwari Minhas, Director of Center of Environment and Disaster and the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof (Dr.) SS Jaswal Registrar, Himachal Pradesh National Law University. The other organizing member Ms. Kalyani Acharya was also present in the event.
