Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board Regional Laboratory Shimla and Regional Office Shimla conducted an awareness activity at Govt Senior Secondary School Chotta Shimla. A competition was organised in the school on the awareness on harmful effects of bursting of fire crackers on the eve of upcoming Diwali festival. Painting, slogan writing and declamation competition was organised in the school and about 130 students actively participated in the event. Prizes were distributed to the students. All the students were made aware of the harmful effect of bursting of firecrackers on the environment especially on air quality and health. The student pledged not to burst firecrackers on Diwali and shall celebrate pollution free Diwali this year.
Maharban Bharti informed the student about the banning of firecrackers by Hon’ble Supreme Court, National Green Tribunal and gave a comparative data on pollution caused by fire crackers each year.
Sr Scientific Officer, Regional Laboratory Shimla also urged all the student, staff not to burst fire crackers and celebrate pollution free festival. He also asked the student to visit their lab who are interested in knowing how the air and water analysis is done in the labortatory to check the level of pollution. Students were made aware about the activities being taken by the State Board for checking air and noise pollution especially a week before and after Diwali and informed the present air quality status of Shimla town in comparison to other parts of country and efforts taken by the Govt in reducing the air pollution in the State.
Principal of the School Meera Sharma of the school also urged students not to burst fire crackers and pass the message to relative and friends. Sr Scientific Officer thanked the management of the school for their cooperation.
