The students of BSc Forestry (Hon’s) Final year of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni undertook a five-day educational cum Industrial Exposure tour to various reputed institutes and industrial establishments to learn about forestry and different allied industries.
Dr. CL Thakur, Dean College of Forestry informed that 114 B Sc students visited the Rosin and Turpentine Factory in Nahan and learned about the rosin and turpentine extraction process. They were also taken to the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation museum, Dehradun where they learned about various techniques to conserve natural resources, particularly soil and water as well as production from cultivated and non-cultivated lands. A visit to the nearby Malsi Deer Park was undertaken to teach the students about the ex-situ conservation of wild animals.
The students also got a chance to visit the museums in the historical Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun including Entomology, Non-Wood Forest Products, Pathology, Silviculture and Timber, and Benog WildLife Sanctuary in Mussoorie where took inventory of different flora present. To learn about the pulp and paper-making process, the students visited the Pulp and Paper Research Institute and the Wood Craft market in Saharanpur, where they interacted with the craftsmen and learned about wood carving.
