*Deputy Commissioner participated in the anti-Chitta awareness program organized at Kotshera College*
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap today motivated the students to stay away from drugs in the anti-Chitta awareness programme organised at Rajiv Gandhi Government College (Kotshera).
He urged each student to motivate at least five other students to stay away from drugs so that this message reaches as many people as possible. He added that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu launched the anti-Chitta campaign in Shimla on November 15th, and in this connection, school and college students in the district are being made aware of the importance of staying away from Chitta. He urged students not to let this campaign stop. He urged all students to pledge to neither consume Chitta themselves nor allow anyone else to do so. He said that this campaign will only be successful if a chain is formed and everyone participates in it. It is important to continue this campaign, only then will its positive results be seen.
He urged students to immediately report any drug-related cases to the college principal or district administration. He added that seeing drug abuse around them or turning a blind eye to it despite having information about it means ruining your future. Therefore, play your role as a conscious citizen to prevent this problem from growing.
He stated that it is our duty to bring those who have become addicted to drugs like chitta or other drugs back into the mainstream. He added that school and college years are the most important part of a student’s life, so work hard to achieve your dreams during this time.
*Share correct knowledge, accurate information and good things – SSP*
Senior Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, said that today’s youth use social media extensively, but what is shown on social media is not always true, so it is important to share correct knowledge, accurate information, and positive things. He said that we can learn anything from anyone, especially our friends, so we should only learn good things from them.
He said that one should have a desire to achieve something in life and remain dedicated to one’s goals. Therefore, keep yourself busy, because when a person has nothing to do, they turn to drugs.
*It is not Chitta, it is Chita – ADM*
Additional District Magistrate Protocol Jyoti Rana said that this is “not Chitta, it’s Chitta,” so staying away from it is crucial for survival. She added that if someone around you uses drugs or Chitta, it will have an impact on your life as well. She urged all students to stay away from drugs and work hard to fulfill their dreams and support their families.
*Consuming Chitta is fatal – CMO*
Chief Medical Officer, Shimla, Dr. Yashpal Ranta, stated that Chitta is a form of morphine, a lethal form of heroin. Consuming it once can lead to addiction, and a drug user typically lives only 2-3 years. He added that if detected early, it is treatable, requiring strong willpower. Furthermore, the addict’s family plays a crucial role in helping them overcome this problem. He explained that treatment is available at the Himachal Mental Health and Rehabilitation Hospital, Shimla.
Dr. Gopal Chauhan, Principal of Rajiv Gandhi Government College (Kotshera), welcomed the Deputy Commissioner and other officials and thanked them for inspiring the college students to stay away from drugs. He reported that the college’s drama team had won second place nationally for its excellent presentation on the subject of Chitta, for which the Deputy Commissioner commended the college administration.
