As part of the district police’s ongoing “Mission Clean – Bharosa” campaign against drug peddlers and drug addicts, the police have successfully apprehended drug smugglers at two separate locations. In one case, police recovered 11.5 grams of chitta, while in the other, 92 grams of hashish was seized. The accused have been arrested in both cases, and police have initiated action under the NDPS Act.
According to reports, a police team was on patrol in the Theog police station area around 9:50 pm on Saturday night when they received a tip-off that a man was carrying drugs on an HRTC bus traveling from Hamirpur to Reckong Peo. Police immediately set up a blockade on the Theog bypass and searched the bus. During the investigation, 11.5 grams of chitta was recovered from the accused, Boota Singh (31), son of Baldev Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab.
Meanwhile, a police team patrolling the Rohru police station area on Saturday night around 9 p.m. found a car parked in suspicious condition near Nalu (Mainhdali), carrying Surendra Singh (38), a resident of village Adal, Tehsil Rohru, District Shimla. A search of the vehicle revealed 92 grams of hashish.
SSP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi stated that action is being taken in both cases by registering cases under the NDPS Act at the respective police stations. He stated that the campaign to prevent drug abuse will continue, and strict action will be taken against the perpetrators. Through interrogation, investigations will also be conducted to determine where the accused were procuring the drugs and where they intended to supply them.
