On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, a programme was organised by HelpAge India and Old Age Helpline Society Solan. The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Sharma.
Manmohan Sharma said that the elderly are the backbone of the society and their experience and knowledge guide everyone as a guide. He said that it is necessary to create a supportive environment for the elderly in the society. This creates positive energy among the elderly. At the same time, the elderly feel more enthusiastic about their connection with society. He said that such programs help in increasing the participation of the elderly in social activities.
He said that respect for the elderly is possible only when we give our children cultured education. He said that for the development of society, coordination between the energy of the youth and the experience of the elderly is essential. He said that we all have a role to play in the development of the country and the state. Senior citizens are indebted to the government for dedicating their lives to the nation. He said that various welfare schemes are being run by the State Government for the upliftment of the aged persons.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all the elderly to download the Swachhata App. He said that everyone needs to work together to keep the city clean and beautiful.
Mayor of Solan Municipal Corporation Usha Sharma was specially present in the program.
Legal Aid Security Consultant Shweta Thakur on this occasion provided information on the rights of the elderly and the acts made in this regard.
On this occasion poetry recitation and speech were presented by the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Anji.
