Calls for making ‘Vocal for Local’ a mass movement to realise the vision of a Developed India
Shimla, October 20, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur attended the Dussehra celebrations organised by the Ram Nagar Youth Club in Shimla on Tuesday and extended festive greetings to the people of the state.
Wishing everyone happiness, prosperity and well-being, Thakur said Dussehra symbolises the victory of truth over falsehood and good over evil. He highlighted the festival’s special place in Himachal Pradesh’s cultural traditions, noting that the world-famous Kullu Dussehra reflects the state’s rich cultural heritage.
With Diwali approaching, Thakur called upon people to prioritise indigenous products during the festival in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal. He stressed the need to transform the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative into a mass movement by encouraging people to purchase locally made goods.
Swadeshi Can Strengthen Local Economy and Employment
Thakur said promoting Himachal Pradesh’s local products, handicrafts, apples and natural produce could provide a boost to small businesses, generate employment opportunities and strengthen self-reliance in the state.
He said embracing Swadeshi was not merely about purchasing locally manufactured goods but also about supporting the country’s entrepreneurs, artisans, farmers and youth. According to him, greater preference for indigenous products could help strengthen local livelihoods and contribute to the broader goal of building a self-reliant India.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), Thakur said the promotion of Swadeshi and local businesses could play an important role in achieving this objective. He urged people to place national interests above individual considerations and actively contribute to the country’s development.
Commends Ram Nagar Youth Club for Social Initiatives
Thakur also congratulated the Ram Nagar Youth Club for organising the Dussehra festival continuously since 2012 and remaining involved in various social activities. He thanked the organisers for conducting the event and extended his best wishes for their continued efforts.
Former minister Suresh Bhardwaj, BJP district president Keshav Chauhan, former BJP candidate Sanjay Sood, the local councillor, office-bearers of the Ram Nagar Youth Club and a large number of local residents were present on the occasion.
