G20 is a group European Union and 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, and US). The G20 Summit takes place annually, under the leadership of a different or rotating Presidency. Initially focused on macroeconomic problems, the G20 Summit later extended its agenda to include trade, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption. As India won the G20 presidency in 2023 (Millets years), which resulted in many international-level events taking place in India at various locations. IIT Ropar hosted the G20’s 2nd Working Education Group Meeting at Khalsa College in Amritsar from March 15 to March 17, 2023. Among all the entries from Pan India for the expo, only a few got selected to present their work in front of G20 delegates. It’s a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh and Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, that our sustainable research work on “Pine needles’ conversion to biofuel for rural empowerment” got selected there. The Directorate of Research Innovation and Development (DRID) team at JUIT is working on many environmental issues in Himachal Pradesh including Pine Pine needles to bio briquettes. At this event, our JUIT’s Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Kumar Sharma was invited with the team members working on the project Prof. Dr. Ashish Kumar and Anup Kumar Sinha (Project Associate). At the event, we got a chance to interact with national and international-level delegates. The team (Anup, Dr. Ashish from civil Engineering, and Dr. Sudhir from Biotechnology and Bioinformatics) is working on this project and developed a cost-effective bio-briquetting technology from Pine needles with calorific value, burning rate, ignition time near to hardwood coal.
