Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) has stepped up again with the successful inauguration of effectual fourth one-week national workshop entitled “Statistical Techniques in Biological, Computational and Medical Sciences (STBMS-2024) version 4.0. STBMS workshop is conducted biannually by the Centre of Healthcare Technologies and Informatics (CEHTI), Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics jointly with Department of Mathematics and since 2016.
STBMS-4.0 has been scheduled from 10 June to 15 June 2024 allowing enhancing collaborative knowledge in Biological, computational and Medical sciences with the help of statistical techniques. Undergraduate students, Ph.D. Scholars and faculty members (37 participants) from different regions of India which includes Jammu, Gujarat, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh, have joined with workshop showed the versatility of the program.
Inaugural program held on 10 June 2024 (Monday) started with the Saraswati Vandana in the esteemed presence of Chief Guest & Session speaker “Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma” along with Vice-Chancellor of JUIT Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dean A&R, Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta and Registrar & Dean of students, Maj Gen Rakesh Bassi (Retd.). Workshop Convener Prof Tiratha Raj Singh along with the Coordinators Dr. Neel Kanth and Dr. Ragini Raj Singh welcomed all with the projection of STBMS and its beneficial activities covering lectures and Hands-on-Sessions. Head of the department of Mathematics Prof Rakesh Kumar Bajaj and Head of the department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Prof Sudhir Syal also welcomed the participants. Prof Tiratha Raj Singh also enlightens the progressive knowledge being covered in the workshop during last decade. First two days were based upon the foundation of statistics followed by advanced level to analyze the data of myriad nature. Prof Suresh Kumar Sharma delivered talks on the basics of statistics, answering the question “Why statistics in Biosciences?”, Correlation, regression Parametric and Non-Parametric test and hands on sessions using SPSS. Prof Tiratha Raj Singh explained about Bioinformatics: A tool and its application in Biomedical and Healthcare. Next three days sessions will be on Machine learning and Deep learning techniques, PCA, LDA and factor analysis. STBMS will be concluded on Saturday.
