In Himachal Pradesh, there is a rise in the cases of HIV/AIDS. With 1,576 persons living with HIV infection, Kangra district leads the state in this regard, according to the most recent data. This represents around 26.61% of the state’s total cases. Following Hamirpur are 1,037 instances. There are 5,657 HIV-positive individuals in all of Himachal Pradesh.
The Health Department reports that young persons between the ages of 28 and 45 account for the largest number of HIV cases. Unsafe intercourse and needle-based substance addiction are the primary causes of this. Since the younger generation represents our society’s future, this scenario is particularly dire.
One of the main causes of the rise in HIV infections in the state is the rising incidence of drug addiction through needles. Young drug users frequently share needles with several individuals, which is causing hepatitis B and C and HIV infections to spread quickly. In addition to causing more health issues, this growing addiction is also having an impact on society. Since the 1990s, when the first HIV case in Himachal Pradesh was documented in the Hamirpur area, the virus has progressively spread throughout the state.
Health officer Dr. Rajesh Sood said that “Soon, a two-month HIV/AIDS awareness campaign will begin in response to the growing number of cases in Kangra area. Through a variety of initiatives, individuals will learn about HIV and be encouraged to be tested for the virus. In order to stop the spread of infection and give impacted individuals prompt aid, awareness initiatives of this kind are crucial.”
