Shimla, March 8
The two girl students of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Janedghat, have brought pride to their school and the region by clearing the prestigious National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination.
School Principal Dr. Sohan Ranta informed that four girl students of Class 8 from the school had appeared for the NMMS examination held in November last year. Out of them, two students—Kavya Sharma and Saanvi Thakur—successfully cleared the examination and brought laurels to the institution.
He said that both students will receive an annual scholarship of ₹12,000 (₹1,000 per month) from Class 9 to Class 12 under the NMMS scheme. The scholarship aims to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections and encourage them to continue their education.
The principal further said that both students belong to rural backgrounds and are not only good in academics but also actively participate in various school activities.
It is worth mentioning that Saanvi Thakur belongs to Shilai village near Janedghat. Her father Sandeep Kumar and mother Meena Kumari are from a modest farming family. Similarly, Kavya Sharma hails from Dudraj village, where her father Narendra Sharma and mother Sangeeta Sharma also belong to a simple farming family.
On behalf of the school, Principal Dr. Sohan Ranta congratulated both students and their parents for the achievement and wished them a bright future ahead.
