A Knowledge sharing session on Human Trafficking was organised by Shoolini School of Law.
The session was piloted by Ms. Juanita Headley, New York attorney and International Speaker, with more than 5 years of global humanitarian and anti-human trafficking experience. She focused on educating and empowering the public on abuse and exploitation.
For more than 7 years she worked as volunteer and demonstrated a great determination, resilience, strong commitment, and dedication to modern slavery. Ms. Monika Thakur, Assistant Professor, Shoolini University’s School of Law was the moderator for the session.
Ms. Headley shared with the audience that Human Trafficking is largely understood as trafficking for sex only, but there is other form of it too like Labour Trafficking or organ trade etc. Headley also shared that at times it become very difficult to make the victim understand that he or she has been exploited by the accused and he or she was not helping in any way, she explained the same with help of some examples of her clients.
During the question-answer round she said, legalizing Prostitution can not help in a way to curb the issue of trafficking for sex. She categorically said it will increase the trafficking to those countries where it is legalized and it cannot be a profession for anyone.
Ms Monika Thakur, Assistant Professor Shoolini University School of Law, said, that session was knowledgeable for not only to the Law students but also for the public as well. The session was helpful in understanding what trafficking is but it also gave an Idea that if we ever come across in a situation where we believe that a child, women or a boy is been trafficked, how we can help the victim.
Dr. Nandan Sharma, HOD, School of Law said, “these kinds of activities will motivate students and enhance their knowledge regarding such kinds of social evils and our focus is to make students aware regarding social issues and solution for the same. he said their School is trying to organise more sessions in the future as well.”
