The continuous heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have increased the difficulties of the people. The landslide on the Kumharhatti-Ramshahr-Shimla road has brought life in the area to a standstill.
Debris and large rocks sliding from the mountains near Kumharhatti and Aampani areas have completely closed the main road. This route connects many villages to Shimla, Solan and other major cities. Due to the closure of the road, not only the movement of vehicles has come to a standstill, but the daily life of the villagers has also been deeply affected.
The teams of the Public Works Department are engaged in removing the debris through JCB and Poklane machines. Despite this, the continuous rain and frequent falling stones are making this work more risky. Department officials said that if the weather cooperates, the road can be opened for small vehicles. At present, people who have to go out for important work are taking a long detour and traveling through other routes. But these routes are not only far, but they are also taking more money and time.
Local residents say that every time it rains, the road gets closed. Due to this, children are unable to go to school, it becomes difficult to take sick people for treatment. People have demanded a permanent solution from the administration. They are demanding the construction of a retaining wall and a better drainage system, so that such problems do not arise in the future.
Nalagarh police has completely closed the traffic on the route and advised the passengers to go through alternative routes, and appealed to be extremely cautious to avoid any untoward incident due to rain. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the state for the next 24 hours. This may further delay road restoration and may also pose a risk to the safety of the workers deployed on the spot.
