SHIMLA: On the morning of 21 December 2025, Loreto Convent School, Tara Hall stood as a beacon of unity as it celebrated the formal merger of the IBVM and CJ congregations. Although the merger was ratified earlier, the school’s grand celebration—led by the Community leader Sr. Apolina, Sr Tressia, Sr. Anima, and the Principal Ms. Reetu Sharma—brought the global union to life locally. The event honoured the shared legacy of their Foundress, Venerable Mary Ward, fulfilling a centuries-old dream of “Coming to be One.” The school premises itself was a testament to student dedication, decorated with detailed craft items by students of Classes 6-12 that beautifully captured the dual spirit of the Christmas season and the Congregational Merger.
The celebrations commenced with the solemn inauguration and blessing of a newly installed statue of the Virgin Mary. The ceremony was presided over by His Lordship, Bishop Dr. Sahaya Thatheus, who offered prayers for the unified path of the two congregations.
This project, born from the vision of community leader Sr. Apolina, was brought to life through the combined expertise of artist and contractor. The centerpiece —a meticulously crafted sculpture of Virgin Mary was created by the sculptor Shubhroto, whose skill ensured the figure of Virgin Mary was dignified and inspiring. The physical construction and materialization of the site were overseen by Ms. Sheenam Kataria. This collaborative effort stands as a testament to the community’s shared faith and dedication to honouring the legacy of Mary Ward.
Following the blessing, the congregation moved to the Gonzaga Auditorium for a solemn Holy Mass. In his homily, Bishop Dr. Sahaya Thatheus highlighted the significance of the merger, describing it as a “divine alignment” that strengthens the mission of service, education, and empowerment.
The event transitioned into a vibrant cultural program featuring, a graceful and captivating welcome dance, symbolizing the harmony and spirit of the combined congregations. This Journey of unification was captured through screening of the reflective videos detailing the intricate and prayerful process of the merger which showcased the global journey towards becoming one body.
The Reverend Bishop was formally felicitated for his guidance and presence.
The celebration was graced by distinguished leaders from the academic and religious spheres, including the Principals of renowned institutions i.e. St. Bede’s College, Convent of Jesus and Mary, St. Thomas School and prominent Priests and members of the Catholic clergy.
The core of the celebration remained the vision of Mary Ward. Her dream was to see her followers united under a single banner of service and Jesuit-inspired spirituality. This merger marks the culmination of that dream, ensuring that her legacy of “ever seeking the greater glory of God” continues with renewed vigour.
The atmosphere of joy reached its peak as the festivity concluded with a Fellowship Lunch. Here, guests, clergy, and members of the Mary Ward family shared a meal in the spirit of convergence of grace which ensured that the two streams of the Mary Ward family have now become one single, powerful river, flowing towards the same horizon of faith, hope, and love.”
