Chamba (Himachal Pradesh): In a heartbreaking incident from Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, two youths lost their lives in the snow-covered mountains near the famous Bharmani Mata Temple. However, amid the tragedy, their pet dog’s unwavering loyalty has left everyone stunned.
The victims, 19-year-old Vikas Rana and his 13-year-old cousin Piyush, had gone to the Bharmani Mata Temple on January 23. Piyush’s pet dog accompanied them, along with camping supplies. The duo reportedly went uphill to shoot videos when the weather suddenly worsened.
A severe snowstorm and heavy snowfall caused them to lose their way. Trapped in freezing conditions with temperatures falling below zero, both youths reportedly succumbed to the extreme cold.
Authorities launched an intense search operation, deploying drones and two Army helicopters, but no leads emerged until Monday. When the rescue team finally reached the location, they witnessed a moving scene — the pet dog was found sitting firmly beside its owner’s lifeless body, shivering but refusing to leave.
Survivors and officials said the dog stayed there for nearly four days, enduring the harsh snowfall without food or water, guarding the bodies until help arrived.
The incident has not only brought grief to the region but also highlighted a rare example of loyalty that has touched hearts across the state.
