Shimla, March 16:
A Serious questions are being raised over the Himachal Pradesh government’s claim of “adequate LPG supply” as ground reports from Shimla suggest otherwise. In a shocking development, the canteen at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) reportedly had to shut operations due to a shortage of gas cylinders, exposing the gap between official statements and the situation on the ground.
While the state government recently stated that thousands of LPG cylinders are available and that there is no shortage in Himachal Pradesh, hotels, eateries and even institutional kitchens in Shimla are struggling to maintain operations. The crisis appears so severe that around 200 LPG cylinders were reportedly transported from Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti to Shimla to meet the urgent demand.
If the supply is truly sufficient, why are hospitals, restaurants and small businesses facing disruption? Locals and business owners are now questioning whether the government is downplaying the crisis or failing to manage distribution effectively.
The situation has sparked anger among business traders, who say the government must clarify the real status of LPG supply instead of issuing reassuring statements that contradict the ground reality. As Shimla prepares for the upcoming tourist rush, the growing gas shortage could turn into a major administrative embarrassment if immediate corrective steps are not taken.
