Shimla, March 11
Shimla Police, continuing its strict action against drug trafficking under its “Zero Tolerance” policy, has arrested two persons and seized a large quantity of LSD during a raid in the city.
According to police officials, a case (FIR No. 14/2026) under Sections 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at New Shimla Police Station on March 10. Acting on credible information, a police team conducted a raid at Him Niwas in the BCS area of Shimla.
During the raid, the police recovered 562 stamp-sized strips of LSD weighing 11.570 grams from the possession of Sandeep Sharma (40), son of late Shiv Ram Sharma, a resident of Dharmkot in Moga district of Punjab, and Priya Sharma (26), daughter of late Anil Sharma, a resident of Dadahu in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Under the NDPS Act, LSD in a quantity exceeding 0.1 gram falls under the commercial category, which can attract a punishment of up to 20 years of imprisonment. The seized LSD is estimated to have an international market value of around ₹1 crore, police said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused Sandeep Sharma had allegedly been involved in LSD trafficking for the past 10 years. During interrogation, it also came to light that a previous case involving 33 grams of heroin (chitta) had been registered against him.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
Shimla Police said that this year alone, 73 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered and 136 accused have been arrested. Among them, 12 individuals have been arrested through backward linkages from outside states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and areas near the Indo-Nepal border.
In addition, 30 persons have been arrested and sent to jail under the PIT NDPS Act in the past 45 days, as part of the intensified crackdown on drug trafficking in the district.
