The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bilaspur, the largest health institute in Himachal Pradesh, will start providing pat scan facility to cancer patients in the next three months. Pat scan machine has reached AIIMS Bilaspur. The management is preparing experts from the institute in the lab to run it. The AIIMS management aims to start this service at AIIMS Bilaspur within the next three months. AIIMS Bilaspur is all set to start the Pat Scan facility by the end of February 2025. With the introduction of this, patients will get relief from going to PGI. This will be beneficial for cancer patients. The hospital management has completed the process of equipment procurement and lab construction to start the facility.
Pat scan (positron emission tomography) is being installed. AIIMS will be the first health institution to provide this facility to the people of the state. Pat scan facility will be available at low rates. The big thing is that cancer patients will not even have to go to Chandigarh. According to experts, pat scan gives better results than MRI in the initial stage. The test will reveal which part of the body the tumor is in. Speaking in the language of medicine, the biological cause of cancer is known through investigation. This makes it easier for doctors to treat.
In private hospitals, one has to spend 10 to 25 thousand rupees for one test. Pat scan at PGI Chandigarh is done for Rs 8500. The prices of throat and waist scans are different. For the Pat Scan in PGI, the patient has to bring the necessary injections separately. After the start of the facility at AIIMS Bilaspur, people will also get relief from the cost of commuting to PGI.
