A major accident was averted late Tuesday night in Chohra village of Gram Panchayat Jhajha under subdivision Kandaghat. Here a house was completely turned into rubble due to a heavy avalanche falling from the mountain. It was a matter of luck that all the people sleeping in the house came out in time and their lives were saved.
According to the information, Nirmala Devi, a resident of Chohra village, was sleeping in the house with her son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons. At around 12 o’clock in the night, suddenly loud noises started coming from the house, as if something heavy was colliding. On hearing the sound, all the family members panicked and immediately came out of the house. Meanwhile, the entire house came under the grip of the avalanche falling from the mountain.
Local people say that if the family had not come out in time, a major accident could have happened. There is an atmosphere of panic in the village after the accident. The avalanche falling from the mountain has completely damaged the house, due to which the family has become homeless.
Atma Project Solan Chairman Surendra Thakur said that the victim’s family belongs to his panchayat. Nirmala Devi’s house has been completely damaged due to the landslide falling from the mountain. She said that the local administration has been informed about the incident and relief is being sought for the affected family.
The villagers have appealed to the administration to provide immediate relief to the affected family and make arrangements for their stay at a safe place. Since the incident, the local people, with the help of the administration, are engaged in removing the debris and providing temporary help to the family. This incident points to the increasing danger in the hilly areas during the rainy season. The landslides and debris continuously falling from the mountain are becoming a serious challenge for the safety of the people living in the villages.
