14 km patch taking 4–5 Hours
Shimla
A severe traffic jam has been reported on the Shoghi–Tara Devi route in Shimla, causing major inconvenience to locals and tourists. Although the distance between Shoghi and Tara Devi is only around 14 kilometres, commuters are taking nearly 4 to 5 hours to cover the stretch due to heavy congestion and long vehicle queues.
The situation has worsened due to an increasing number of tourists and limited road capacity, especially during holidays when the flow of vehicles rises sharply. People stuck in the traffic for hours are facing serious difficulties, particularly elderly passengers, children, and patients.
However, a relief is that continuous vehicle movement throughout the night has prevented snow from settling on the road, reducing the risk of slippery conditions. Despite this, poor traffic management and rising pressure on the route continue to create challenging conditions.
Locals have urged the administration to take immediate steps to improve traffic control and ensure smooth movement on the route in the coming days.
