An important meeting regarding development of gas distribution network and supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Shimla city was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the development of the city’s gas distribution network is an important step toward reducing urban pollution and decreasing dependence on cooking gas cylinders. However, it is also a crucial issue related to public safety, which requires serious consideration.

He said that Shimla is a city situated entirely on a hill and its geographical conditions are different from other cities. Consideration should also be given to how the pipeline can be kept safe from landslides.
Company officials said they have proposed a gas distribution network for Shimla and Mandi cities in the state and it is safe to distribute gas there considering the altitude.
