Shimla
A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Anupam Kashyap with the officials of political parties regarding creation of new polling stations and rationalization of existing polling stations in Shimla district.
In the meeting, detailed information regarding polling stations in District Shimla was given to all the officials present and proposals regarding rationalization of polling stations as per the orders of the Election Commission were discussed.
Proposals to create 6 new polling stations were discussed
It was informed in the meeting that as per the proposals received, 6 new polling stations are to be opened at various places in District Shimla, in which for the convenience of elderly voters of village Ahong of 60-Chaupal, a new polling station 108A-Ahong is proposed to be opened in Government Primary School Ahong and keeping in mind the elderly voters of village Dak Sharad, a new polling station 128A-Dak Sharad is proposed to be opened in Government Primary School Dak Sharad. Similarly, in 64-Shimla Rural Assembly Constituency, due to the number of voters being more than 1200 in polling station 11-Sunni, a new polling station 11(A)-Sunni-II is proposed to be opened in Government Primary School Sunni. In 103 Mandhol under 65-Jubbal Kotkhai Assembly Constituency, as the number of voters is more than 1200, 1 new polling station 103(A)-Mandhol-II is proposed to be created in Government Senior Secondary School Mandhol (Western Part) and in polling station 125-Nandpur, as the number of voters is going to be around 1200, therefore, a new polling station 125(A) Nandpur-II is proposed to be created in Government Senior Secondary School Nandpur (Western Part) for the voters of sections 1-Badiar, 2-Sanoli and 5-Shalar. Similarly, in polling station 50-Duttnagar under 66-Rampur (SC) Assembly Constituency, as the number of voters is more than 1200, 1 new polling station 50(A)-Duttnagar-II is to be created for the existing voters in Government Senior Secondary School Duttnagar-II.
6 polling stations to be rationalized
It was informed in the meeting that rationalization of polling stations of Shimla district is also proposed in which it is proposed to change section Pensijal of polling station 127-Koti of 61-Theog assembly constituency to polling station 128-Bajoa (Government Primary School Bajoa). Similarly, due to the number of voters being more than 1200 in polling station 77-Patyog-VII of 62-Kasumpti, its section Upper Kangnadhar is proposed to be changed to polling station 76-Patyog-VI and, sections Mathi Devi Niwas Kshetra Panthaghati and Jaggar Nath Niwas Kshetra Panthaghati of polling station 79-Sargheen are proposed to be changed to polling station 82-Mehli-II. Similarly, a proposal has been received to change 4 Section Sainj of polling station 4-Mandholghat of 64-Shimla (Rural) to polling station 3-Machhriana, Juni Kalan to polling station 5-Kandola and Juni Khurd and Katli to polling station 6-Jamog.
14 polling station buildings will be shifted to other buildings
It was informed in the meeting that a total of 14 polling stations of the district are to be shifted to other buildings keeping in view the pathetic condition of their buildings. In which polling station 63-Ghareen of 60-Chaupal assembly constituency is to be shifted to Government Middle School due to construction work of the existing Government Primary School Ghareen. Similarly, polling station 65-Vikasnagar of 62-Kasumpti assembly constituency, Office of Senior Executive Engineer, Electrical Division No.-II, Block No.-8, First Floor, Shimla Development Authority Complex, Kasumpti is proposed to be shifted to Smart City Bhawan (Ground Floor), Kasumpti Main Bazaar Building and the existing polling station of 86-Pujarli, Government Primary School Majhar (Pujarli) is proposed to be shifted to Mahila Mandal Bhawan Majhar (Pujarli). Polling station 76-Tool (Shakarah -I ) under 64-Shimla (Rural) Assembly constituency is to be shifted from Government Senior Secondary School Shakarah (Eastern Part) to Government Primary School Sarmana. Similarly, sections Jadhog, Bhalogdi, Jhakhri Nichli, Chowari and Kashyad of polling station 77-Tool (Shakrah – I ) are proposed to be included in polling station 76-Tool (Shakrah -I ) (Government Primary School Sarmana). In the same series, under 65-Jubbal-Kotkhai Assembly Constituency, polling station 42-Koti (Government High School Koti) has been shifted to Government Primary School Koti, polling station 47-Garawag (Shahun) Government Senior Secondary School Jauni (Garawag) has been shifted to the new building of Government Senior Secondary School Jauni (Garawag), polling station 63-Kuthari (Government Senior Secondary School Kuthari) has been shifted to the new building of Government Senior Secondary School Kuthari, polling station 65-Khalai (Government Middle School Khalai) has been shifted to Government Primary School Khalai, polling station 75-Kasheni (Community Centre Kasheni) has been shifted to Government Primary School Kasheni, polling station 88-Pauta (Government Primary School Dhar) has been shifted to Government Senior Secondary School Dhar, polling station 120-Jhalta (Government Primary School Jhalta) has been shifted to Government Middle School Jhalta and polling station 128-Kuddu (Government Primary School Kuddu) is proposed to be shifted to Panchayat Ghar Kuddu.
67- Under Rohru Assembly Constituency, it is proposed to shift polling station 92-Chidgaon from Panchayat Samiti Bhawan Chidgaon to Nagar Panchayat Bhawan Chidgaon and polling station 117-Larot from Government Primary School Larot to Forest Rest House Larot.
There should be no confusion among voters regarding the names of polling stations
The Deputy Commissioner said that many times the names of polling stations are changed, which creates confusion among voters. He directed all the officers of the Election Department to ensure that in such a situation, complete information is given to the voters of the concerned area so that no confusion arises during voting. He said that many times the name of an office or building is changed or a school is upgraded, which creates confusion among voters. He said that in such a situation, the old name should also be written along with the new name in the voter slip given to the voter.
The Deputy Commissioner, while directly communicating with all the newly appointed Election Kanungos, said that before preparing a proposal for setting up any new polling station, the voter percentage of the last 2 Lok Sabha and 2 Assembly elections must be checked and further action should be taken only after that. Apart from this, visit all the polling stations in your area and take stock of their condition and also identify new buildings so that when the time comes, they can be used as strong rooms or for other purposes.
In the meeting, the officials of all the political parties gave their consent to the proposals. All the proposals will be sent to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer for further action and after the proposals are approved by the Election Commission, the list of polling stations will be published.
