Shimla, February 10, 2026:
A 29-year-old man who had been missing for the last 3–4 days was found dead in a forest area near Sangti, Summer Hill, Shimla.
According to police, information was received at Boileauganj Police Station on February 9 around 11:30 am that Shobhit Thakur, son of Dev Raj Thakur and resident of Shakuntala Niwas near Raj Guest House, Sangti, had gone missing. On February 10, his brother informed the police that Shobhit’s body had been found hanging from a tree in the forest during the search operation.
A police team reached the spot and found the body hanging from a branch of a buransh (rhododendron) tree with a white cloth tied as a noose. The scene was photographed and videographed in the presence of family members and others present at the spot.
Police cut the cloth and brought the body down. On inspection, no injury marks were found except a ligature mark on the neck. Statements of the family members were recorded, and necessary legal formalities were completed. The supervising officer of Boileauganj Police Station also inspected the site.
The family has not expressed any suspicion regarding the death. The body was taken to IGMC Shimla for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family. Further proceedings are being carried out under Section 194 of the BNSS.
