1876 animals were treated through 05 ambulances in the district
The state government has implemented many schemes towards making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant. In this episode, the general public has started getting the benefits of various schemes on a wide scale to strengthen the rural economy. The basis of the rural economy is agriculture and animal husbandry, milk production. The state government’s pioneer scheme 1962-Mobile Veterinary Service in the Animal Husbandry Department was implemented from 05 March 2024. 44 mobile veterinary ambulances are running across the state while 05 mobile ambulances are running in Shimla district alone.
So far 1876 animals have been treated
In Shimla district, from 05 March 2024 to 30 June 2025, 1876 animals have been treated through mobile veterinary ambulance. Along with this, 05 ambulances have travelled 69954 km across the district for the treatment of these animals. These include Sunni, Rampur, Shimla Urban, Rohru and Theog areas. 90 percent of the animals are being treated in the villages through ambulances.

Pashu Sanjeevani call centers are also functioning in the state. Under this, animal keepers of the state can call on toll free number-1962 from any corner and get veterinary service at their doorstep for the treatment of sick animals in case of emergency. People of rural areas are benefiting from this on a large scale. Mobile veterinary ambulance is available from 9 am to 5 pm to provide free treatment to animals at doorsteps. Each ambulance has a three-member team in which one veterinary doctor, one veterinary pharmacist and driver cum helper are available.
Ambulance became helpful for helpless animals
Mobile veterinary ambulances are proving to be helpful in treating stray animals across the district. Earlier, treating stray animals on the spot was a big challenge. People had to struggle a lot to bring such injured animals to the nearest veterinary hospital. But now with the smooth running of mobile veterinary ambulance facilities, people immediately inform if stray animals are injured. After this, the mobile veterinary ambulance reaches the spot within a few minutes.

In the first case, on June 21, Chaman from Jamesi village of Behna Panchayat of Ani Khand informed the ambulance running in Rampur area through phone that one leg of his cow was broken. After this, the mobile veterinary ambulance took a special surgeon from Rampur and reached the house of the said person at around 12 noon where the cow was successfully operated and a plate was inserted in the leg.
Second case: On 18 December 2024, around 9 am, Diyothi village head Sanjeev informed through phone that the reproductive part of his cow had come out. After this information, the mobile veterinary ambulance reached the spot and operated on the cow. After monitoring for about a month, the cow became completely healthy.
In the third case, on 16 June 2025, a call came from Manjhgaon at 09:07 am, in which Ramlal informed that his cow had been attacked by a bear due to which the cow was badly injured. The ambulance reached Ramlal’s house and provided first aid to the cow.
Het Ram from Shivi village of Sunni informed the mobile veterinary ambulance about the presence of worms and tumors in his bull. After this, the team reached his house and removed the tumor from the bull and provided other first aid.
On 27 June 2025, in Sunni, Hemant Mehta informed that his cow was sick. When the team reached the spot and checked, the calf was dead in the cow’s womb. The team removed the dead calf by performing a C-section on the spot.
