The Himachal Pradesh Muslim Association has challenged the decision of the Municipal Commissioner’s Court to demolish the illegal structure of Sanjauli Masjid in the court. A petition has been filed in the court in this regard. The case is scheduled to be heard on November 6. The Muslim community has challenged the decision in the district court. It challenged the decision on the ground that the affidavit filed by Mohammed Latheef as chairman of the mosque committee was not authorised by it though there were other sentiments attached to the building. Therefore, their views should also be heard.
Najakat Ali Hashmi, spokesperson of the Muslim body which filed the petition, said the matter has been posted for hearing on November 6. The Muslim body has challenged the decision of the Municipal Commissioner Court. At the same time, the Sanjauli Mosque Committee has started the process of demolishing the illegal part of the mosque in compliance with the orders of the Municipal Commissioner Court. The roof of the mosque has been demolished. After the roof was brought down, the mosque committee is now engaged in arranging funds etc. The Supreme Court too passed an order in this regard. The Municipal Corporation has been directed to decide by December whether the building is legal or illegal.
