In Himachal, mustard and soybean oil of a renowned Delhi based company has been found unfit for consumption. Two weeks ago, the Food Safety Department had collected oil samples from Darlaghat, Baddi in Solan district and sent them to CTL Kandaghat. During investigation, both types of oil were found unsafe. Soybean oil has also been found mixed-branded. According to the report, there is no quantity of ingredients used in mustard and soybean oil.
The oil has also not been prepared as per the standards of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The department has sent notices to shopkeepers and asked for bills and other documents within 30 days. There are preparations to take action against the company also.
At present, the Food Safety Department has ordered the company to recall all the stock of oil found unsafe. The company has been given a week’s time. During the festive season, the department is collecting samples of food items including oil and other items from the markets. The samples are being tested in CTL Kandaghat and Chandigarh laboratories, from where reports are being received in 15 days. Dialogue
Arun Chauhan, Assistant Commissioner, District Food Safety Department, Solan says, ” The samples of mustard and soybean oil failed. The company has not prepared the oil as per FSSAI standards. Action will be taken against the company and the concerned shopkeeper has also been asked to submit his documents. ”
