“Call from nature is coming, but now where to go” is the biggest problem for the travelers who are coming to Shimla to celebrate the Winter Carnival and New Year.
Enchanting in the laps of snow-capped mountains, these days the summer capital is attracting the ‘toddlers to seniors’ to their various venues, including Ridge, Rani Jhansi Park, Mall Road, and other exhibition areas, but the lack of sanitation facilities is creating a hurdle in their enjoyment.
A couple from Bangalore, Navdeep and Ankita, sharing their experience with CrazyNewsIndia, says, “I and my wife were keenly looking forward to experience the joy of the carnival, but our pleasure turned into rage when we did not find the toilet. The one we found is not clean even after standing in long lines.” In the carnival, the food is delicious, and other than this problem, we enjoyed it a lot, they added.
Another family member who came from Punjab shares his experience and says, “In the carnival, the food is yummy, which fills our tummies, but the lack of washrooms near joints spoils all kinds of fun. We asked the nearby restaurants to use their washrooms, but they denied it.
Despite the government’s directions to provide free water and restroom access, several restaurants in the area are not adhering to these guidelines. Many establishments display signs in restaurants and cafes indicating that the restrooms are for customers only, disheartening the proposed inclusivity.
MC Commissioner Bhupender Attri told CrazyNewsIndia, “The issue will be resolved soon, and directions have been given to all to keep clean washrooms near the ridge.”
The lack of access to sanitation not only has an impact on public health but also raises questions about the city’s preparedness for hosting large-scale events. The government should take the necessary steps so that tourists can fully enjoy the winter carnival.
