A three-day conference on Tree Based Diversified Land-Use System: Augmenting Livelihood Security and Industrial Growth was organized by Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari, Gujarat and the Gujarat Chapter of the Indian Ecological Society Gujarat Chapter in association with International Union for Forest Research Organisation (IUFRO), at NAU, Navsari last week.
The students and faculty of the Department of Tree Improvement of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni participated in two themes out of the total six themes of the conference. Three students and three faculty participated in the session on Tree Improvement and Ecology while a doctoral scholar of the university presented his work on the theme of Silviculture, Forest Management, Economics and Policy.
Dr. Shikha Thakur from the university’s main campus and Dr. Jai Pal Sharma and Dr. Shikha Bhagta from COH&F Thunag presented posters while three students- Mohit Kaundal, Shweta and Shreya presented oral presentations. Five participants received awards for their presentations. Dr. Shikha Thakur and Dr. Shikha Bhagta bagged the first and third prizes for poster presentation respectively. Among students, Shweta bagged the first prize for oral presentation while Shreya and Mohit bagged the 3rd prize in their respective themes. A total of five prizes were won by the participants at this conference.
