The plan to transport machinery by air to repair the damaged highway from Patlikuhal to Manali in Kullu district has not been successful, but the matter of relief is that NHAI has transported its machinery to most of the places by road and there is every possibility of machines reaching the remaining places by late tonight.
NHAI had planned to transport machinery between Patlikuhal and Manali with the help of Chinook helicopter of the Indian Air Force; all the formalities for this were also completed, but due to bad weather, this work could not be done.
At the same time, the efforts that NHAI was continuing to take to move the machinery forward while restoring the road are also being successful. At this time, NHAI has put in all its strength. As soon as the machinery reaches these places, the work of road restoration will start here immediately after that. It is expected that this work will be completed soon and Manali will once again be connected through the main road. As everyone knows, the damage caused in Kullu district due to the rains in the past few days has also caused heavy damage to the highway. Due to the unexpected fast flow of the Beas River, the highway has been completely wiped out at many places. Immediately after the disaster, NHAI started work at the ground level. Efforts are on from NHAI to speed up relief work through every medium, from ground to sky.
NHAI’s machinery and teams are stationed in the field day and night to restore the damaged highway. The work of restoring the highway is going on continuously even in difficult conditions. Although there are many places where it is not possible to work even during the day, but NHAI is continuing this work day and night using all the resources. A living example of this was seen recently, when NHAI restored the highway while facing every challenge to take the injured referred from Kullu to AIIMS Bilaspur. In this incident, stones also fell on two machines, yet the ambulance was pulled out at all costs. The same spirit is now being seen in highway restoration.
Air Force’s help will be taken if needed
NHAI Project Director Varun Chari said that due to bad weather, it was not possible to transport machinery by air. Machinery has been transported to most places by road, and road restoration work is going on at a fast pace. In the future, when the Air Force’s help is needed, their services will be taken.
