Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has strongly refuted the Opposition’s allegations of an increase in entry tax on vehicles entering the state from neighbouring regions, stating that no such hike has been implemented.
Addressing the issue, the Chief Minister termed the claims as misleading and politically motivated, clarifying that the current taxation structure remains unchanged. He emphasized that private vehicles registered in Himachal Pradesh are not affected, and the provisions largely concern commercial and out-of-state vehicles.
Sukhu further explained that confusion may have arisen due to streamlined toll collection systems, including FASTag integration, which could give the impression of higher charges. However, he reiterated that there has been no significant increase in tax rates.
The Chief Minister also assured that the government is sensitive to the concerns of border-area residents and is considering relief measures, including special provisions for daily commuters if required.
The clarification comes amid growing political debate, with the state government accusing the Opposition of spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary public concern over the issue.
