Shimla: State spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sandipani Bhardwaj, has expressed gratitude to the Central Government led by Narendra Modi for the construction of North India’s longest rail viaduct on the Daulatpur–Katoli railway line in Una district and the successful tunnel breakthrough on the Bhanupalli–Beri railway line.
He stated that these projects reflect the Prime Minister’s special commitment towards Himachal Pradesh, which he considers his second home, and demonstrate the Centre’s dedication to accelerating the state’s development.
Bhardwaj said the 7.80-kilometre-long viaduct and the 10.55-kilometre new broad-gauge line on the Daulatpur–Katoli railway section have been constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹677 crore. Calling it North India’s longest rail viaduct, he described it as a remarkable example of engineering excellence and modern technology. He added that the project would significantly enhance connectivity, trade, tourism, and employment opportunities in Una and adjoining areas.
Highlighting technical aspects, he said the viaduct comprises 301 spans and 302 piers, with nearly 16,000 metric tonnes of structural steel and 19,000 metric tonnes of TMT steel used in its construction, showcasing the Centre’s focus on world-class infrastructure.
The BJP spokesperson further termed the successful breakthrough of around 750 metres of the approximately 8-kilometre-long tunnel on the Bhanupalli–Beri railway line as another milestone for the state’s rail connectivity. He said the project would strengthen Himachal’s integration with the national rail network and give a fresh boost to industrial growth and tourism.
Bhardwaj noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Centre has undertaken several landmark infrastructure initiatives in the state, including the Atal Tunnel and expansion of national highways. He said these efforts underline the government’s priority to place Himachal firmly on the path of rapid development.
“Prime Minister Modi considers Himachal not just a state, but his second home. That is why the state has received focused attention in every sector,” Bhardwaj said, adding that the vision of the government is to make Himachal self-reliant in tourism, industry and employment.
He urged the state government to ensure effective implementation of central schemes so that the benefits reach every citizen, reiterating that the goal remains a “Strong Himachal, Developed India.”
