A 3-day online training programme on “Disaster Management and Response during Calamities and Supply Chain Management in Present Pandemic Context”, jointly organised by Shoolini University and National Institute for Disaster Management (NIDM), was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The keynote address was delivered by Vice Chancellor Prof. PK Khosla who briefed all the panelists and participants about indigenously developed, e-learning platform of the University. He underlined the importance of keeping prepared for responses during disaster management and thanked NIDM for partnering with Shoolini University.
Lt. Col. D.C. Vashista, Joint Director, NIDM briefed the panelists and participants about the establishment of National Institute of Disaster Management which was constituted under an Act of Parliament with a vision to play the role of a premier institute for capacity development in India and the region. Under the Disaster Management Act 2005, NIDM has been assigned nodal responsibilities for human resource development, capacity building, training, research, documentation, and policy advocacy in the field of disaster management, he said.
The Technical Session was initiated by Mr Surendra Thakur, Consultant, NIDM who talked in details about the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and various other institutions like National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
The second session was chaired by Lt. Col. D.C. Vashista. He talked about the history of disasters that have occurred across the world. He also talked about the disaster management cycle specifically about preparation response, recovery, and mitigation, and discussed in details about the various terms associated with the disaster management and types of disasters.
The last session was held by Dr. Priya, an eminent scientist. She spoke about training, research, and prospects in the field of disaster management from a student’s point of view. She also discussed the importance of the study of disaster management and to make aware the participants about the national disaster management structure and various job prospects in the field of disaster management.
