A comprehensive awareness campaign will be run in the district with everyone’s cooperation

There is a need to run a comprehensive campaign to make people aware of the ill effects of drug abuse in Kangra district. To prevent drug abuse, the district administration, police department and other related government departments, NGOs working in the area and the general public need to work in an organized manner. Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar said this while chairing the meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee of the National Narco Coordination Portal (ENCORD). Additional Superintendent of Police Veer Bahadur was also present in this meeting held at NIC Sabhagamar on Wednesday.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that a completely dedicated awareness campaign should be run in the district for drug prevention. He said that all departments and NGOs should prepare awareness material together. He gave instructions in the meeting to prepare separate awareness material for drug addicts and potential addicts, so that people of both categories can be made aware according to their situation. He instructed the NGOs working in this field to prepare a detailed project in this regard.
Strengthen drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers
In the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner sought information from the officers about the action taken regarding the surprise inspection of the private de-addiction and rehabilitation centers running in the district. He informed that the private de-addiction and rehabilitation centers running in the district are being inspected regularly. He directed to increase the capacity of the government de-addiction and rehabilitation centers in the district.
Sentinel clubs should be active in schools, dialogue programmes should be resumed
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar said that there is a need to make serious efforts in the awareness campaign about the ill effects of drug abuse in the schools of the district. He directed the officials of the Education Department to activate the Prahari Club formed in the schools. He said that the responsibility of the in-charge of Prahari Club should be given to such a teacher who is serious about this subject and who is also accepted by the children. He directed the department to organize a workshop for the in-charge teachers of Prahari Club in all the schools of the district, so that they can be made aware of their role and responsibility. He said that this workshop of the teachers of Prahari Club should be conducted separately in the three police districts Kangra, Nurpur and Dehra.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner directed to restart the ‘Samvad’ (S.A.M.V.A.A.D. – Systematic Adolescent Management and Value Addition Dialogue) program which was earlier run for awareness in schools in the district. He informed that in this program, education and awareness activities related to school children of various departments are run according to the scheduled schedule with convergence. In this regard, the concerned officers and employees were instructed to regularly go among the children.

On this occasion, Additional Superintendent of Police Veer Bahadur said that everyone’s participation is necessary to control the drug trade in the district and to get the youth out of it. He said that the youth who have fallen into the trap of drugs and their families should inform the police administration about it without any hesitation. He said that the police will fully cooperate in saving them from this and controlling the drug trade.
