Shimla:
A large group of pensioners staged a protest outside the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, raising slogans and demanding the release of their long-pending financial benefits. The demonstrators, many of them senior citizens, sat on dharna holding placards highlighting issues such as pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, medical reimbursements, and other retirement-related dues.
Carrying banners and signs that read “DA Arrear – Medical” and other messages against rising inflation, the pensioners urged the government to address their grievances at the earliest. They expressed concern over delays in payments, stating that many retired employees are facing financial hardship due to the pending arrears.
Leaders of the pensioners’ association said that repeated representations to the authorities have not yielded concrete results, forcing them to protest outside the Assembly. They warned that if their demands are not met soon, the agitation could be intensified in the coming days.
Security personnel were deployed outside the Assembly premises to maintain order as the protest continued peacefully.
