The water level of Pong Dam is continuously rising and it remains above the danger mark. On Thursday morning at 7 am, the water level was recorded at 1394.52 feet, while at 8 am it increased further to 1394.54 feet. At the same time, the danger mark in the dam is set at 1390 feet. At 7 am, the flow of 1,07,205 cusecs of water was recorded in the dam. While at 8 am it increased to 1,14,738 cusecs. 16,892 cusecs of water is being released from the dam through the turbine and 82,781 cusecs from the spillway. In this way, a total of 99,673 cusecs of water was released.
88,183 cusecs of water has been recorded in the Beas river at the downstream snubber. At the same time, 11,500 cusecs of water is being used through Malkanpur Hydropower Channel (Punjab). All the 6 machines of the dam are currently operating at full capacity. The sky in the district is partially covered with clouds. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert regarding heavy rain in Kangra. The administration has appealed to be cautious and advised people not to go to the river bank.
