‘Shielding Anti-National Activity and Breaking House Traditions Unforgivable’
Shimla: BJP State General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal on Sunday demanded an independent inquiry into the alleged role of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in the controversy surrounding the AI Impact Summit 2026.
In a statement issued here, Katwal targeted the state government and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu over developments linked to the international AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi on February 20, 2026.
Katwal alleged that the semi-nude protest staged by Youth Congress workers during the summit was “unfortunate” and had tarnished the nation’s image. He said representatives from over 100 countries had attended the summit at the invitation of the Government of India.
“This was not a political party event but a Government of India programme. Any such protest on that platform has damaged the country’s reputation,” he said.
The BJP leader further alleged that the role of the Chief Minister’s Office in the entire episode was “suspicious” and warranted an independent and impartial investigation. He claimed that the Chief Minister had publicly acknowledged that rooms at Himachal Sadan in Delhi were booked through his office for those involved in the protest.
“This makes it clear that the role of the CMO needs to be thoroughly investigated,” Katwal said.
Referring to the ongoing Budget Session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Katwal also accused the government of disregarding established legislative traditions. He alleged that instead of moving a vote of thanks on the Governor’s Address, the government brought a political resolution on the RDG issue and passed it after three days of discussion.
“Despite passing the resolution, neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Finance Minister was approached in Delhi. This shows the RDG issue was used merely for political purposes,” he alleged.
Katwal further claimed that individuals involved in the protest were brought to Himachal under government protection and that Delhi Police were obstructed despite acting with legal documents and court permission.
Calling the matter a violation of federal principles and constitutional norms, he demanded a probe by a central agency and strict action if any role of the Chief Minister or the CMO is established.
“Himachal Pradesh is Devbhoomi, known for patriotism and peace. It is unfortunate to stake the state’s dignity for political interests. The BJP will continue its struggle to bring out the truth,” Katwal said.
