Solan
A program was organized here today under the National Eye Donation Awareness Fortnight under the joint aegis of Health and Family Welfare Department Solan and Sai Sanjivani Hospital. The program was presided over by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ajay Pathak.
Dr. Ajay Pathak said that the National Eye Donation Fortnight is organized from 25 August to 08 September. The purpose of this fortnight is to promote the importance of eye donation and to fill the gap between the demand and supply of cornea. He said that eye donation is a noble act which brightens the lives of the blind by giving them vision.
He said that a person willing to donate eyes can go to the nearest eye bank and fill in a pledge form and donate his eyes after death. The state has eye banks in Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda.
Dr. Ajay Pathak also provided information about the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization on this occasion.
On this occasion, eye specialist Dr. R.K. Gupta provided comprehensive information on prevention of eye diseases and eye donation.
A poetry symposium was also organised on this occasion.
