Shimla: District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has imposed a complete ban on public meetings, rallies, processions, demonstrations, sloganeering, use of bands, and carrying objects that could be used as weapons at 10 identified locations across Shimla city.
Exercising powers under Section 6 of the Punjab State Security Act, 1953, the District Magistrate issued the order to maintain public order and prevent any untoward incidents. The restrictions have come into effect immediately and will remain in force till March 31, 2026.
Restricted Areas Include:
From Chhota Shimla to Ridge and Kennedy House
Within 150 metres from Rendezvous Restaurant to Rivoli Cinema
From Scandal Point to Kali Bari Temple
From Chhota Shimla Gurudwara to Link Road (Chhota Shimla–Kasumpti Road)
From Chhota Shimla Chowk to Lok Bhawan to Oak Over
From Chhota Shimla Gurudwara to Satti Stairs and footpath leading to Kasumpti Road
From Cart Road to Majitha House Link Road
From A.G. Office to Cart Road
From CPWD Office to Chaura Maidan
From Police Gumti above Deputy Commissioner’s Office to Lower Bazaar (within 50 metres)
The order clarifies that police, paramilitary, and military personnel performing official duties are exempted from these restrictions.
As per the notification, prior permission from the competent authority will be mandatory for organizing any event in the specified areas. Violators of the order will face action under relevant legal provisions.
The administration stated that the decision has been taken considering the urgency and the need to maintain law and order in the city.
