Public meetings & demonstrations prohibited in Shimla city.
Shimla District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap today issued orders exercising his powers under Section 6 of the Punjab State Security Act , 1953, whereby, in order to maintain public order, holding of public meetings, processions and rallies, demonstrations, sloganeering, playing of bands and carrying of objects that could be used as weapons for criminal purposes has been completely prohibited at all places in Shimla city, from Chhota Shimla to Ridge and Kennedy House, from Rendezvouse Restaurant to Rivoli Cinema up to a distance of 150 metres, from Scandal Point to Kali Bari Temple, from Chhota Shimla Gurudwara to Link Road Chhota Shimla Kasumpti Road, from Chhota Shimla Chowk to Raj Bhawan to Oak Over, from Chhota Shimla Gurudwara to Satti Stairs and footpath leading to Kasumpti Road, from Cart Road to Majitha House Link Road, from A.G. Office to Cart Road, from CPWD Office to Chaura Maidan, and from the Police Gumti above the Deputy Commissioner’s Office up to a distance of 50 metres towards Lower Bazaar.
This order will not apply to police, paramilitary and military personnel while performing their duties.
Keeping in view the urgency and necessity of maintaining public order, this order has been passed with immediate effect which will remain effective for the next two months.
According to the order, permission for events at all of the above-mentioned restricted locations must be obtained from the competent authority. Violation of these orders will be punishable as per the rules.
