Mandi, July 30: The damage caused by frequent landslides on the Chandigarh Manali National Highway from Pandoh’s Kainchi Mor to Diod is being assessed by NHAI through a Pune company. After which, NHAI will work with better technology to save these hills. So that a permanent solution can be found to the frequent landslides.
Debris falling from the slope has been a major problem in this section of the highway for the past two years. A few of the NHAI-built security fences have fallen. At the same time, the majority of the dams have developed large fractures, and these dams are continuously raising alarms. Because these slopes lack rocks, debris from even the smallest downpour may reach the roadway immediately, according to NHAI Project Director Varun Chari.
The dams are also being harmed by this mountainous detritus. From Kainchimod to the Diod Tunnel, the same circumstance exists, which is causing NHAI to incur significant losses. The Pune business will now evaluate the damage, and NHAI will use improved technologies to prevent landslides in this area.
A landslide close to Kainchimod caused this route to be stopped for four hours this morning as well. Machinery has now cleared the massive number of stones and debris that fell from the slope. At 4 a.m., this landslide occurred.
Outpost in-charge for Pandoh Heavy rains may cause the debris removal job to begin later than planned, according to Anil Katoch. At around six o’clock, the concerned company’s machinery arrived on the scene, and the debris removal process began. Around eight o’clock, one-way traffic was allowed on the highway. Following that, the stalled cars were securely removed under police watch.
However, the section of the highway at Kainchimod that was situated on the banks of the Beas River had fallen once more. Let us inform you that the 2023 calamity caused total destruction to this roadway. Following this, every rainy season, this roadway near Kainchimod sustains damage. Vehicles have been permitted to pass here in a one-way fashion for the past few days.
