Allegations of ragging at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya have stirred concern among parents and education authorities, bringing student safety back into sharp focus in the hill state.
A Class 10 student has accused senior students of subjecting her to ragging, an ordeal that reportedly left her emotionally shaken. According to her family, the incidents date back to November. However, they approached the police with a formal complaint on January 27 after noticing signs of mental distress.
School authorities have stated that no written or verbal complaint had been brought to their notice earlier. Following the complaint, local police have launched a preliminary inquiry and are set to record statements from the student, her family, and the accused students to establish the facts.
In response, the school administration has formed a fact-finding committee to conduct what it described as a fair and transparent internal investigation. Principal Raj Singh assured that strict action would be taken if any misconduct or negligence is proven, based on both the committee’s findings and the police report.
The episode has reignited debate over anti-ragging safeguards in educational institutions across Himachal Pradesh, with parents urging stronger monitoring mechanisms and prompt intervention to prevent such incidents in the future.
