The western disturbance is likely to cause heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and adjoining areas of northwest India. According to the Meteorological Department, the western disturbance will be active in the western Himalayan region from the night of December 7 and in the adjoining plains of northwest India from December 8. Under its impact, the drought situation in Himachal Pradesh, which has been going on for more than two months, is expected to end. Light to moderate rain or snow is likely to occur at a few places in Shimla district and at isolated places in Kufri and adjoining areas.
According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, due to the influence of active western disturbance and strong easterly winds, rains are likely to start from late night of December 7 and continue till December 9. Its intensity will be maximum on December 8. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in most parts of the State during the period. There is also a possibility of thunderstorms along with rain. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over the plains and at many places over the hilly regions of the state during the period. Rainfall is likely to decrease significantly from 10th December 2024.
According to the Meteorological Centre, there is a forecast of light to moderate rain and snow at some places in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kangra, Shimla and Kullu districts on December 8 and 9. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur. There will be no major change in the minimum and maximum temperatures till December 7, after which the temperature will drop to around 3-4 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state for the next three days. The weather is likely to remain clear throughout the state from December 10.
The state has not received any rainfall since the monsoon ended on October 1 with 18 per cent less rainfall than normal. There had been heavy rain in the area in recent days. There is a drought-like situation in the state. Power and water supply have also been affected. The state has received 98 per cent less rainfall than normal from October 1 to December 5. Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kullu, Sirmaur and Solan did not receive even a single drop of rain. Other districts also received heavy rain. Now there is hope from the forecast of the weather department.

The minimum temperature in Shimla was 8.0 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 3.0 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 0.5 degrees Celsius, Kalpa 0.8 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 6.9 degrees Celsius, Una 3.6 degrees Celsius and Nahan 10.3 degrees Celsius. Palampur 3.0, Solan 2.0, Kangra 5.5, Mandi 3.9, Bilaspur 5.1, Jubbarhatti 7.2, Kukumseri- 6.5, Barhair 4.4, Seubagh 1.3, Dhailakuan 6.2, Barthin 2.7, Samdo- 4.4, Sarahan 6.4, Dehra Gopipur 8.0 and Tabo- 10.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature on Wednesday was 25.3 C in Bilaspur, 25.1 C in Solan, 24.4 C in Mandi, 24.0 C in Kangra, 23.1 C in Dharamsala, 18.6 C in Shimla, 15.3 C in Manali and 13.3 C in Kalpa.
