Chamba
Himachal Pradesh is experiencing a significant loss of life and property due to the ongoing, intense rainfall. A horrible event occurred recently in the Chamba district when a house’s roof fell, killing a woman and critically injuring her husband.
The event happened in the Bathri Panchayat in the Dalhousie subdivision’s Kumharka village. In their temporary home kitchen, Shashi Kumar and his spouse Ritu Devi were preparing dinner. The kitchen’s roof abruptly collapsed due to the constant rain, burying the husband and wife beneath the rubble.
Hearing the loud sound of the roof collapse, the nearby villagers immediately reached the spot and started rescue work. The villagers also informed the Panchayat representatives and the local administration about the accident. People together removed the debris as soon as possible and pulled out the couple in an injured condition.
The villagers immediately rushed both the injured to the Community Health Center in Bathari. Due to serious injuries, Ritu Devi died in the hospital itself. At the same time, Shashi Kumar was referred to Medical College Tanda after first aid, where he is undergoing treatment.
On receiving information about the accident, SDM Anil Bhardwaj also reached the spot. He expressed condolences and gave an immediate relief amount of Rs 25 thousand to the victim’s family and assured to give the rest of the relief amount soon.
The police have registered a case in connection with this tragic incident and started investigation. After the post-mortem, Ritu Devi’s body has been handed over to her family. This incident has shocked the entire village and once again highlighted the dangers caused by rain in Himachal Pradesh. The local administration has appealed to the people to be cautious during heavy rains and avoid living in dilapidated houses.
