Shoolini Literature Society organised a poetry recitation session for faculty and students in which the key speaker was Prof Roshan Lal Sharma, a senior professor at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) and a well-known figure in academia and in the world of letters.
Prof Sharma, who also served as interim Vice-Chancellor of the same institution, is a bilingual creative writer, having penned several volumes of poetry in Hindi and in English. At Shoolini University he recited some of his poems, much to the delight of the audience which comprised poetry enthusiasts on the campus.
Present at the gathering were the faculty members and students of the School of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Legal Sciences, and others. Some of them recited their own compositions, too.
Associate Prof Dr.Purnima Bali, the host for the day, read a couple of her poems and touched some emotional chords with a reference to the ill-fated Gudiya case. Students, Roohani and Saloni, presented their self-composed poems. Dr Rakesh Kait of the Sanskrit Dept, read his poem in Hindi, and Prof Tejnath Dhar summed up the session, giving the vote of thanks.
Dean School of Liberal Arts, Prof Manju Jaidka, who also read one of her poems, announced that the next session would focus on “Don Quixote” which is one of the best-known novels of the world. Prof Jaidka said now, post-Corona, some of the events are held in a blended form, in person as well as livestreamed.
