A Mental Health and Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Camp was successfully organised at Shimla Nursing College, Shurala under the joint aegis of the Indian Red Cross Society Himachal Pradesh State Branch and District Red Cross Society Shimla.
The primary objective of the camp was to provide Youth Red Cross volunteers and nursing students with accurate information on the importance of mental health and menstrual hygiene, while addressing social myths and misconceptions associated with these subjects.
During the programme, Counselor Meenakshi Mehta from Deen Dayal Hospital, Shimla delivered an informative and motivational lecture on mental health. She elaborated on identifying early signs of stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges, emphasising the importance of timely counselling and measures to maintain sound mental well-being. She also highlighted the significance of stress management, positive thinking, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Participants were also sensitised on menstrual hygiene practices, including maintaining proper cleanliness during menstruation, the use of safe sanitary products, and overcoming social stigma and misconceptions related to the subject.
On the occasion, Junior/Youth Red Cross Coordinator of the Himachal Pradesh State Branch, Virender Singh Bisht, stated that Youth Red Cross volunteers can play a vital role in spreading awareness within society. He encouraged participants to actively contribute to promoting Red Cross humanitarian initiatives in their institutions and communities.
Around 60 students and teachers, including Youth Red Cross volunteers, participated enthusiastically in the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the resource persons, institutional staff, and all participants.
