Shimla, February 28: Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Saturday inaugurated the Recreation and Sports Centre, Wellness Centre and Smart Seminar Hall at APG Shimla University. He also presided over the annual prize distribution function and released the third edition of the university newsletter, AGU News, published by the Department of Journalism.
The minister was accorded a traditional welcome with drums and colourful cultural performances at the university campus. He honoured meritorious students for excellence in academics, sports, extracurricular activities and NSS, presenting them with certificates and cash prizes.
Addressing students and faculty, Thakur said that despite difficult geographical conditions, Himachal Pradesh has emerged as a leading state in the field of education. He highlighted the state’s high literacy rate and emphasised the need to maintain quality education through collaboration between government and private institutions. He added that the state government is taking steps to modernise teaching methods and strengthen the education sector further.
University Chancellor Prof. R.K. Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Singh Chauhan, along with other senior officials, welcomed the chief guest. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor said the university is committed to quality education, innovation and research, and offers modern technology-driven courses to enhance students’ employability.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Dr. R.L. Sharma, followed by cultural performances and a Pre-Holi celebration by students and faculty.
