Shimla
A controversy erupted in Shimla after vehicles belonging to ministers, MLAs, and Congress leaders were reportedly parked on the historic Ridge Maidan — a restricted and heritage zone — during a protest on Friday.
According to reports, more than 20 vehicles remained parked at the Ridge from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, causing inconvenience to locals and tourists. The Ridge area, where vehicle entry is normally prohibited and violations attract fines of up to ₹3,000, saw a line-up of official cars despite existing restrictions.
Residents questioned how vehicles were allowed in a no-entry zone while strict rules apply to the general public. Authorities have yet to clarify whether any penalties were imposed.
The incident has sparked debate over double standards in enforcing traffic and heritage protection rules in the state capital.
